Project rules and context
Rules files
Section titled “Rules files”Put how your project works — the build commands, the conventions, what never to touch — in one of these files at the root of the workspace:
| File | Who reads it |
|---|---|
.siriusrules |
Sirius |
.sirius/rules.md |
Sirius |
AGENTS.md |
Sirius, and the other agents that follow the AGENTS.md convention |
Every existing, non-empty file is included, in that order, under a From … heading, and re-read on every request — edit the file and the next message sees it. The combined text is capped at 8,000 characters: an overflowing file is cut with [rules truncated] and later files are skipped, so keep rules short and put the important ones first. A missing or unreadable file never stops a request.
Rules reach the chat participant — Ask, Edit and Agent. They are not applied to Tab completion, to the commit-message command or to the importer.
Only the first folder of a multi-root workspace is read. CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules and
.github/copilot-instructions.md are not read by Sirius; put the shared content in
AGENTS.md, which other tools read as well.
Context that travels with every request
Section titled “Context that travels with every request”Without you doing anything, each message carries the file in front of you: The user
currently has src/routes/health.ts open (typescript; selection, lines 12–30): followed by
the selection, or about 60 lines either side of the cursor when nothing is selected, capped
at 6,000 characters. Only files on disk are included; a preview or a settings tab is not.
To add more, use the editor’s context controls in the chat input — attach a file, a folder, a selection. Sirius forwards the paths of file and location attachments to the model, which then reads what it needs with its tools.
A small example
Section titled “A small example”# aurora — rules for the agent- Use pnpm, never npm or yarn.- Tests live beside the code: foo.ts → foo.test.ts.- Never log request bodies; log ids.- Public API changes need a note in CHANGELOG.md.- Run `pnpm check` before you say you are done.
