Inline chat and the selection commands
The four selection commands
Section titled “The four selection commands”Select code and right-click. The context menu has a Sirius group:
| Command | What is sent |
|---|---|
| Sirius: Explain Selected Code | Explain this code + the selection |
| Sirius: Fix Errors in Selection | Find and fix the problems in this code + the selection |
| Sirius: Write Tests for Selection | Write tests for this code + the selection |
| Sirius: Refactor Selection | Refactor this code, explaining what you changed and why + the selection |
The selection goes along as a fenced block tagged with the file’s language, together with the usual context — the file name and where the selection sits — and the request is submitted straight away to the chat view, in whatever mode and model the chat is on. The answer, and any edits, appear there with the same diffs, Keep / Undo and checkpoints as any chat turn. The four commands are also in the Command Palette; without a selection they send only the instruction, which still carries the active file as context.
Fix Errors asks the model to find the problems itself; it does not pass the Problems
panel along. If you want the model to see the diagnostics, ask in the chat — the agent’s
problems tool reads them.
Inline chat
Section titled “Inline chat”Ctrl+I (⌘+I) opens the editor’s inline chat at the cursor — a small input inside the editor whose edits land in place. It is the workbench’s own feature and it uses the editor’s language-model plumbing, where Sirius registers its models.
