Importing from another editor

Sirius: Import from VS Code, Cursor, or Windsurf — the title is short; VSCodium is supported as well. Sirius looks for each editor’s user folder and extensions directory and offers only the editors it finds:

Editor User folder Extensions
Visual Studio Code Code/User ~/.vscode/extensions
Cursor Cursor/User ~/.cursor/extensions
Windsurf (now Devin Desktop) Windsurf/User ~/.windsurf/extensions
VSCodium VSCodium/User ~/.vscode-oss/extensions

The user folder lives under ~/.config on Linux, ~/Library/Application Support on macOS and %APPDATA% on Windows. Insiders builds and Flatpak or Snap installs keep their files elsewhere and are not found.

Pick the editor, then untick anything that should stay behind — all four categories are ticked by default:

  • Settings — settings.json is merged into Sirius’s: a key you have already set in Sirius wins, and keys belonging to the other editor’s own features (cursor.*, windsurf.*, codeium.*, github.copilot*) are left out.
  • Keybindings — keybindings.json is copied only if Sirius has no keybindings of its own yet; otherwise yours are kept and the report says so.
  • Snippets — every file in snippets/ that does not already exist in Sirius.
  • Extensions — each extension id found in the other editor is installed from Open VSX. Extensions that are not published there are listed in the Sirius Import output channel so you can look for alternatives. GitHub Copilot is skipped.

When it finishes you get the counts: Imported from Visual Studio Code: 42 settings · keybindings imported · 3 snippets · 18 extensions installed (2 not on Open VSX).

Not imported: themes as such (they are extensions, so they come across with the extensions), profiles, window and UI state, recent workspaces.

Run it again any time; nothing already in Sirius is overwritten.
